Re: Scared of Metformin! HelpFrom: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 May 2003 14:16:05 -0400
Wow there are a lot of symptoms of PCOS. I started slow on the Met just because it gave me real bad diarrhea. If you are not going to try to conceive until fall I would suggest gradually bringing it into your system. I know that other people have not had this problem but just to be safe. I officially diagnosed last August but I am sure I have had it since at least 1996 that is when the unexplained weight gain started and didn't end. But I was officially put on meds for PCOS last Aug. Hasn't worked for me yet but I still have a little ray of hope left in me. My advice is to start slow. Your body doesn't like it when you change stuff so the slower the better. I was glad that I did. I still get the diarrhea but not so bad as at first. So my body must be getting use to it. Good luck and keep us posted. -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Behalf Of Beth Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 2:08 PM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS-MEDICATION Subject: Scared of Metformin! Help HI everyone.. Well, I got my official PCOS diagnosis today after an ultrasound. My doctor gave me the go ahead to start Metformin. My problem is, I am super paranoid to take it after reading about all the side effects. I am a worry wart by nature, and reading about Lactic Acidosis, etc really scares me! Has anyone had any real problems taking it? Do they benefits outweigh the risks? I am not planning on trying to conceive until the Fall. Does it make sense to start the medication this early? My only symptoms of PCOS are irregular periods, polycystic ovaries on Ultrasound and Hirsutism. Thanks everyone! Beth
