Hi, start off with 1/2 tablet once a day. If you have severe side effects, reduce to 1/4 tablet and move up from there. Build up so that you can take 500 mg once a day, or 1/2 tablet twice a day. It doesn't matter how long it takes to get up to this dose. BTW some people do not have severe side effects and can build up straight away. Experiment whether it is best for you to take it before, during or after meals. Some people claim it does make a difference. Side effects, if any, usually settle down within a couple of weeks.

I beleive that you could stay at 500 mg for 1 - 2 months then if your periods have not normalised and symptoms are unchanged you could build up to 1000 mg a day (usually in two doses). The maximum dose is normally 2000 mg, rarely are doses higher than that necessary - though there is one woman here who had very severe PCOS(Sonnet)and who did not see benefits until she was on 3g/day - now she is pregnant and doing great (BUT this is rare exception). Do remember that a higher dose is not necessarily better. The best dose is the one that you get normal periods at and where your symptoms are reduced. It may be that 500 mg once a day is sufficient. Best wishes Sally
