Re: PCOS-MEDICATION digest 1196From: Jim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 25 May 2003 12:20:16 -0500
Allison: I started metformin (the generic for Glucophage) May 3. Initially I took 1 500mg tablet daily. A week later, my dosage increased to 2 500mg tablets daily, and just yesterday I increased to 3 500mg tablets daily. I haven't had hardly any side effects. Don't know if I'm just lucky, or if it was the slow way I increased my dosage. I'm going to stay at 1500mg for a month or so and see how things go. I know the effective dosage varies by individual. Good luck!! What is a good dose to begin with to allow my system to adjust to it as gently as possible? I would like to avoid any further shocks to my system. Additionally, what dose is considered to be most effective, and over how long a period of time should I work up to it to minimize the initial side effects? Thank you so much for your assistance. I'm new to this...
