Hi, my name is Caroline. I am not a doctor, but I have been suffering from PCOS (Polystic Ovarian Syndrom) since I was about your daughters age. Although there is no cure for this disease, there are medications you can take to reduce the symptoms. I'm not sure what symptoms your daughter suffers from, but I have been dealing with the facial, stomache and back hair, along with no periods. I am now 39 years old. Currently I am taking spirolactin and recently started taking metiforim. PCOS in most cases causing one to be insulin resistant. Meaning although you are not a diabetic, you have some of the same symptoms diabetics do. My doctor placed me on the Atkin's diet to lose weight since obesity is also one of the symptoms of PCOS. The spirolactin reduces the hair growth in the male hormone pattern such as face, back, stomache etc. Being on a low carb diet is the greatest. Because it truly helps the insulin resistance problem. Since I cannot take birth control pills to bring around my period, the doctor has placed me on provera which does not promote blood clots. In conjunction of all these meds, it has helped tremendously. I still suffer from the symptoms but they are now at a minimal. If your daughter has facial hair problems, it is my suggestion that she have either laser surgery or electrolysis. Both will eliminate hair permanantly.
