cystic acne and PCOSFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 10 Apr 2003 19:30:34 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I would like to know if anyone has had similar problems as myself regarding acne. I have had severe cystic acne for the past 5 years. I have tried almost everything, it seems. I was on accutane for 12 months (but on a low doseage)--about 3 years ago--and it helped, but once I got off of it, it returned just as badly. About 1 and a half months ago, I started taking OrthoTricyclin to not only help regulate my periods (which have always been very irregular), but also to help improve my skin. However, once I started taking it, I noticed that my acne was getting worse and I have gained 5 pounds since. Is this a 'normal' reaction before it gets better? Has anyone else had similar results? My acne is especially noticeable along the jawline and around my mouth. It also seems to be extending down my neck. This is becoming quite unbearable, as I have been suffering through this since I was 19. I am now 24. I have only recently learned about PCOS, and believe that I may have it; so I would like to hear from professionals/others with PCOS who can possibly suggest some treatment/medications that I might consider. I would appreciate any advice. It is particularly difficult for me, as I do not have health insurance, and really don't want to waste anymore of my money just trying this and that.
