Re: Metformin and depression?

Sherry,

Yes, I suffered from depression the first time I took metformin. I worked my way up to 2000mg/day of generic metformin, but I never felt "right" somehow. I was blue most of the time. This went on for about 10 or 11 months and then I just got p.o.'d and stopped taking it.

About 18 months later, my doctor urged me to try it again. This time, after reading lots and lots of postings on this and other forum and also talking to my pharmacist, I decided I wanted to take Glucophage XR (my doctor pretty much lets me do the research and then just says "OK"). It seemed a lot of people, including the pharmacist, felt like it was a superior drug to the generics, with the added benefits of only having to take it once a day and the decrease in the more undesirable side effects. Something about the bonding agents (or something scientific that went right over my head). Anyway, I do have the occasional day where I'm lazier than usual, and the other occasional day that my stomach seems queasy with all that, but I'd say 95% of the time I do not have that blue feeling anymore.

Sorry, this got long, but I wanted to be as specific as possible.

Hang in there, Linda
