Drinking alcohol while taking Glucophage may cause lactic acidosis. This is a serious condition that happens when a buildup of lactic acid occurs due to an inability to clear Metformin. It is rare but very dangerous. Skipping his dosage is a bad idea if he wants to control his diabetes; I am not sure that this will even help to avoid the side effect.
