Dr. Sam - Can you help me understand test results for IRFrom: Elaine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 Mar 2003 07:55:50 -0600 (CST)
Dr. Sam; Our doctor did the 2 hour Glucose fasting test w/insulin on my daughter. She said the glucose test came back at 1 hr., 2 hourf, however the insulin she said was 4, which is low. She has the symptoms of IR. Since last fall, she noticed an increase in her weight and no amount of cutting back food or exercise would take it down, even though it used to be not a problem. She is normally 5'2-105lbs., has put on 10-15lbs. Has been able to find a doctor that has put her on met,3 wks. now, last 10days on 1500mg.. Exercises 1 hr. per day and has been on low carb diet. Why insulin test only 4? How can the symptoms manifest and the tests be negative or even the opposite extreme? Could other things have affected the results? Only other symptom of PCOS is no cycles without BCP's. No cysts on ultrasound. Could something else be the problem? Also, is Lo-Overal okay to take. What I've read on Yasmin seems like to many side effects to put her through. I greatly appreciate you feedback.
