Re: Dr. Sam: a Diane-35 questionFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 15 Mar 2003 13:32:50 -0600 (CST)
Hi Melissa-- I'm not Dr. Sam, but you need to know that almost ALL babies have jaundice at birth or shortly thereafter. It's EXCEPTIONALLY COMMON and if the mother is nursing is called 'breastfeeding jaundice' here in the states. It has no impact on your current health or is an indication of the function of your liver now. You metabolised through it as an infant with the help of the lights and if you aren't jaundiced now, I surely wouldn't worry about it. If you feel better by having a hepatic panel run, then ask your doctor for it. But if you have no symptoms of liver problems, then jaundice as an infant is inconsequential. HTH
