Who can take metformin?

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 (I'm now 29)...I have a weight problem as well at 201 lbs. I have had my blood tested for diabetes, but it always comes up fine. I had a baby in May , 2002, and I am finding recently that I am more and more tired. I have been also experiencing headaches, accompanied by nausea. I was wondering what kind of qualifications one had to meet to take metformin. What kind of tests can be done etc. I am trying so hard to get the gym and work out, but I find that very very hard. I am so tired sometimes I don't even get showered until the afternoon. Since I had my daughter my symptoms seem worse than before I had her. Even getting up in the morning is a challenge. I would really like to find some more information to see if this might be a good treatment for me. Any input would be appreciated.
