Re: My daughter was diagnosed with pcos at the age of TEN .From: Anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Feb 2003 23:29:10 -0600 (CST)
Hi, My daughter was dx at 8, so it's not that unusual. I think it would be very good for your daughter to see a pediatric endocrinologist who specializes in childhood diabetes. Perhaps you might find one who treats pcos. My daughter started glucophage at 8 years. BCPs are not good for pcosers and are very bad for children, she needs to see a specialist. Some physicians try Lupron to stop ovarian function and slow down puberty, others are using insulin sensitizers like metformin. You and your daughter need to do some serious reading and get educated. You are in charge of her health care and you need to know what her options are. It is your right to research and demand proper treatment for her. Start reading! Search online, read all the articles in the pcos section and she could visit pcoteen to chat with her peers. Good luck!
