Hi Susan,

Yes any doctor can prescribe Metformin also known as Glucaphage. They are basically the same and you may want to contact your PCP or your ObGyn about it. I asked my OB about it at last appointment and because I am currently not trying to get pregnant he would not put me on it, and gave some sound reasons why. If your PCP or OB are not willing to give to you ask why and push for answers. Your time is as important as his/hers and you have a right to know! Stay strong.
