Re: liver cancer and dianetteFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 26 Feb 2003 09:05:44 -0600 (CST)
Since you have PCO, it would be advisable to see a RE--someone who specifically treats endocrine problems and is highly versed in the reproductive organs, as your ovaries are part of that system (on both counts). NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am I being too adamant here? YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE YOUR OVARIES TO TREAT PCO!!! This is one of the main reasons I recommend seeing a RE--you can discuss current methods of treatment, decide on a plan that's best for you, and get a full blood workup that is more specific than what a GP or GYN can order. The underlying root of PCO is insulin resistance--your ovaries DON'T excrete insulin! Your PANCREAS does! Your ovaries react to the overproduction of insulin in many ways, one of which is to develop multiple cysts. The treatment that is highly regarded for PCO (not a cure, but a liveable treatment) is to stem the overproduction of insulin through insulin sensitizers. There are several types out there. The best thing you can do for yourself now is to do research. Search and read the archives at this site; there is a ton of information that will help you and educate you on your condition. An informed patient is a well-treated patient, as you can be your own advocate with the medical professionals you see. You can do a Google search, but be aware that there is a lot of flotsam and jetsam out on the web in general. See if you can get to a medical library at a university near you; you can find good articles on treatment plans and read the research in endocrine-medicine journals. PLEASE DON'T HAVE A HYSTERECTOMY OR OOPHERECTOMY TO TREAT THIS CONDITION! It will only remove the part of your body that is exhibiting *some* of the symptoms; it will not treat the root cause of it. Your health is too important to ignore this!
