Re: metaforminFrom: Kim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 15 Feb 2003 13:50:04 -0500
Apparently your gp has very little knowledge about PCOS, I would not only get a second opinion but I would find another gp if it's possible. His lack of knowledge could lead to many complications for you. I know how you feel, I've been there. I went through 3 gps and 3 endocrinologists (and many hours of research about PCOS!!) before finding the ones I have now. I wasn't satisfied with their methods and they weren't working for me. I've taken anti-androgens and they did nothing for me, my testosterone levels were still way too high. My current endocrinologist put me on Metformin starting slowly at 500mg and working up to 1700mg over the course of about a year and a half. My periods have been pretty regular ever since, I've lost 40 lbs and the hirsutism has slowed. I would also worry about a doctor who refuses you access to a dietitian because everyone, no matter what their health is like can always benefit from better nutrition! Don't let the doctor bully you, if you feel his treatment is not right for you change doctors. Too many people feel obliged to listen to the doctor even when their instincts tell them it's wrong, we've been told not to question the doctors, but the fact is that you are employing the doctor to work for you, you have every right to question him and his knowledge, it's your health after all. Good Luck, Kim. >From: anonymous@obgyn.net (anonymous) >Reply-To: anonymous@obgyn.net >To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS-MEDICATION
