Dear Amy, My sister (who does not have PCOS) used Xenical for several months trying to shed a few pounds and she has done serious damage to her heart b/c of the drug ephedria (sp?) that is in Xenical. I'm not a doctor but I see my endocronlolgist on a regular basis and _never_ has he ever recommended the use of over the counter drugs to aid in weight loss - just because its sold in GNC and other stores does not mean that its a health option for losing weight the FDA has no control over these drugs because they are sold as a food supplement and they don't have juristiction over that but that are currently trying to find a way around current regualations and are trying to remove these types of products. I am with you in the frustration of the PCOS weight gain - I would recommend a low carb diet before ever turning to something that could cause serious damage to your heart. I'm sorry if I sound like I am over reacting but many people don't know the side effects of these drugs and because of my sister not only do I know the results from her experiences, I know what it has done to the other girls that she has in a support group who have had the same thing occur with them.
