Re: daughter with PCOS and mother with history of breast cancerFrom: SusieQ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Feb 2003 09:51:25 -0600 (CST)
Hi anonymous, I am glad you found our forum, because your daughter does have other options. PCOS is not a disease that originates in the ovaries, but in the endocrine system. It is, generally, caused by insulin resistence. Most knowledgeable doctors will not use birth control now, as it only masks the symptoms and does not treat the cause of her problems. And she has the added risks of estrogen, if you had estrogen positive cancer. Please do some reading on the PCOS Section, http://www.obgyn.net/pcos/pcos.asp, and at soulcysters.com. It is important that your daughter gets educated about her disease, and the current treatment options. It is her body, and she needs to be in control of her medical care. Let us know how it goes! luck, SusieQ
