My doctor says the contraceptive pill the only treatment for PCOS

I had been taking the contraceptive pill Dianette for five years to treat my PCOS symptoms and excess testosterone (greasy hair, skin, aggressive mood swings, facial hair growth), but I didn't like the way it reduced my libido and sexual response. Four months ago I stopped taking the pill and have noticed these symptoms returning. I really like having 'real' periods again, feeling my monthly cycle, and my sexual response has picked up again so don't want to start taking the pill again.

However my doctor has told me today that taking the pill is the only way to stop the symptoms. Is this true? Do I really have to choose between having a calm, feminine disposition and having a sex life?!

I live in the UK, not sure if available US treatments are different?
