Re: Has anyone gained weight when stopping Wellbutrin?

Hi Kari,

I have not taken welbutrin, but have been taking reductil which is a similar class of drug - though specifically tailored to the weight loss rather than as antidepressant (wellbutrin). After adding reductil to my cocktail (thyrax, metformin, and a few others) I have lost 30 lbs. I have stopped it the past two weeks and am still losing 2 lbs a week. Though I am working pretty hard at it - with very strict diet and regular intense exercise most days. My endocrinologist seems to think that drugs like this not only dull one's appetite, but may also help in increasing metabolism.

If you appetite is higher again, perhaps that would explain - because even a small amount of excess snacking can easily result in weight gain before you realise it. I would recommend keeping a food diary so that you could be very aware of what you eat..... then plan out and start slowly reducing your food consumption until you get to a level where you can maintain, and then lose weight. Focus on eating healthy - ie. stay away from refined, sweet, and processed foods.

Hope this is some - though limited - help.
