Hi Sarah,

One has to clarify definitions. Period is a bleeding reappearing regularly every 24/35 days and lasting no longer than 7 days. Enything else is an irregular bleeding (IB). Metformin is the treatment for PCOS, but not for IB. The usual procedure in the case of an IB is first to clarify its source. Earlier this was done exclusively by a curettage. Now, if an ultrasound reveals no thickened endometrium, curettage maybe skipped. After clarification comes treatment, which may include hormones and meds that decrease capillary fragility.
