Re: Provera?From: Deanna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 24 Jan 2003 08:57:41 -0600 (CST)
Annie, I have been taking Provera since I was 18 and am now 32. From my experience there are a few reasons that you wouldn't get a period. First of all, I just took a 10 day cycle of Provera and you are supposed to start 1-5 days after the last pill. I didn't start until day 4, so it might just be taking your body a little longer to start this time. Sometimes it takes longer then other months with no apparent reason. Secondly, sometimes your body doesn't build up enough of a lining to shed so that when you take the Provera there is nothing there to release so to speak. That is all that I was told Provera does anyways until recently when someone on this discussion board said that sometimes it will cause you to ovulate and it can increase your ability to get pregnant while taking it. I have always heard that it doesn't make you ovulate. Lastly, pregnancy is one reason you may not start your period after taking the pills. I would do a pregnancy test to be sure before you start the Clomid. Better safe than sorry. I am not a Dr. so I don't know things for sure but that is just my experience and what I have been told over the years of taking Provera. If after taking a pregancy test and then waiting a few more days you don't start then I would call your Dr. and just mention it to see if he is concerned about anything. I doubt he will be though. It has happened to me before. Take care and best of luck with the Clomid.
