Hi Michelle,

PCOS has many symptoms and sometimes you need several medicines to treat them (although some drs are overzealous to treat symptoms instead of the disease). But this time your dr is right: you need Provera (or some other gestagen or natural progesterone) to transform your endometrial lining and being able to shed it. The lack of progesterone is the cause of irregular bleedings in PCOS. If you start to ovulate, no further need for Provera. But you could withhold Clomid, b/c Metformin alone can start your ovulation. So if you haven't been takin Metformin before, you could try it alone for 6 mo, before startoing on Clomid. For your info
