Re: Forbidden Alcohol

Hi Chele,

I don't beleive that alchohol is completely forbidden while on Metformin/Glucophage.

My doctor (endocrinologist) is perfectly aware that I have one small glass of red wine nearly every day.... and supports this, even though I also take gluc.

I think the key here is moderation. A glass of wine or other alcohol with a meal should be perfectly fine - as should the occassional glass of champagne, etc. This is quite different from driknking excessively which certainly is prohibited.

If for some reason I am going to drink more than usual, I just skip the gluc dose just prior to and just after the drinking. But this is extremely rare - I hate the feelnig of getting drunk, or even tipsy. BUt I DO ENJOY a glass of excellent wine!

Best wishes
