My doc wouldn't give me Met...

Hi. I've had PCOS for approx. 5 years and have seen many doctors who gave me either little or useless info about the disease. I saw a PCOS specialist with the hope that he would be able to finally offer some real solutions. I asked him about Metformin and Glucogauge, which I've read about on boards like this but he said that those drugs were only for women who are trying to conceive. I am NOT trying to get pregnant, just trying to deal with the horrible symptoms of this disease (mainly excessive weight gain). Has anyone else been told the same? Can I take Met or something like it for the PCOS even if I'm not trying to get pregnant? Thanks in advance for any info.
