My RE only wanted to put me on 1500 mg. He wouldn't consider anything higher. I thought that, depending upon the person's degree of insulin resistance, some may need more than this. I found an endocronologist who actually tested my insulin, sugar and c-peptide levels to determine my dose. I was monitored every 3 months and achieved regular 40-45 day cycles which I guess are normal for me. I do think the Glucophage helped me with my acne, but I don't think it helped with excess hair at all. It did make it possible to lose weight too if I worked at it. I'm now taking Metformin and on birth control pills so I can't answer your question if Met or Glucophage works better in my case as far as ovulation is concerned. (Ovulation is not my goal at the moment.) As far as the acne control and weight loss is concerned, I don't see any difference in the two. Right now, I'm taking 2000mg of Metformin. If getting pregnant is your goal at the moment, I'd find a dr who would test your levels and tailor the dosage to your needs. Hope this helps.
