Estrogen Replacement after TAH-BSO in Person with PCOSFrom: Becky (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Dec 2002 23:40:35 -0600 (CST)
I have been diagnosed with PCOS since 1987. I'm 44 years old. I had a TAH-BSO in July due to an enlarged uterus with dysmenorrhoea and meno-metrorrhagia which was causing anemia. I was put on 1 mg Estradiol daily about a week after surgery & was told that is the typical dose post-hysterectomy. I also was told that I no longer can have PCOS since I no longer have my ovaries. I have a couple of questions. 1. Does a women continue to have PCOS even though they have had their ovaries removed? If so, what are the symptoms after a TAH BSO that a woman with PCOS would continue to have? 2. Does a women with PCOS generally need more or less Estradiol after TAH BSO than women without PCOS? Thanks in advance for any responses?
