Metformin

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor prescribed Metformin. I have been on the medication for a month now and it makes me very sick. I understand that some of the side effects are nasuea and diarrhea, but I thought that was supposed to get better with time. Mine seems to be getting worse daily. I have begun throwing up and being very sick a few hours after I take the Metformin. I spoke with my doctor yesterday and he suggested that I quit taking the medication if I am having such bad side effects. As much as I would love to quit taking the medication, I want to get better. Is there any other medication you are taking that is helping? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the side effects less severe? I gradually worked up to my dose of 1000mg twice daily and I always take it with a meal. I don't know what else to try. Please let me know if you have any advice. Thanks!! Chelsea
