Dr. Sam...Please HelpFrom: Shana (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 15 Dec 2002 19:53:41 -0600 (CST)
Dr. Sam, I have PCOS and have been on Met. for four months. I just had my first real period. In Feb. of this year I had a miscarriage at twelve weeks. My husband and I want to try again, but I want to make sure I know exactly what I should be doing to make this pregnancy sucessful. I am currently taking 1000 m/g of met, and I've been taking folic acid every day for two months. I have been trying to learn all I can about my condition and how it affects pregnancy. For instance, I read that one of the problems with women with PCOS is that when we ovulate, our eggs come out before being mature enough to be a viable fetus. Also, I read that the overproduction of male hormones prevent the placenta from clotting. I was wondering if you know if these things are true, and if so, does met help with these problems? Lastly, what tests should I have done before I try to concieve in order to ensure that I have the best chance at having a sucessful pregnancy? I apologize for asking so much. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Sincerly, Shana P.
