new diagnosis for college daughterFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 25 Nov 2002 18:59:28 -0600 (CST)
Hi! My daughter never got periods on her own. She is 20 yrs old now. They tried a hormone medication that led to a bleed - and then she went on BCPs and she has regular periods now - but they said she has PCOS - I believe her androgen levels were a little high.... and the ratio of a couple of her hormones signaled it also. Luckily her insulin test - the 3 hour tolerance test - was normal. She has been on BCO for 4 years, ortho tri and then she tried yasmin but had no bleeding, or middle cycle bleeding, etc. Went back to ortho tri c., 1.) can someone PLEASE hook us up with a good doctor? We are in the Philadelphia area - but can easily go to New York or Wash. or Boston for a good Doctor who can help her. RIght now her weight is normal and she has no symptoms other than no periods - so we want to get her established with someone good and keep her well. She exercises each day and eats very well - she tried the atkins diet all last summer and didn't lose anything at all - her doctor said that she didn't have much to lose... she is 5'7'' and 160 lbs. 2.) Does this mean her situation may stabalize here? Will she grow to experience some of the more troubling symptoms mentioned on this board and elsewhere? Can she a void them? 3.) what are her chances for a pregnancy - what may lie ahead for her in this area? 4.) thanks so much.
