Hi Lyn, I am on my third week of reductil. I have also cut my calories down to about 1000 - 1200 a day (but generally aiming for 1000 and sometimes I eat less than 1000) and am exercising (aerobic and weights - about 2 hours and getting into it properly working up a good sweat and getting heart rate right up for extended periods of time) on most days. This compares to before where my target was about 1200 - 1500 calories a day (and I know that I complied nearly all the time - I use a food diary and am quite strict about it and measuring foods etc) and my weight totally stable. I think I am losing weight very very slowly - maybe 1 or 2 lbs so far - but not clear yet. But I am not convinced that the reductil is what is making a difference - nowhere near the effect that would 'be expected' from the literature I read - and I am practically at 'starvation level' in terms of calories and even more so if you consider the exercise that I am doing. So the reduced food and increased exercise could be the cause NOT the reductil. The side effects are not so nice either if you have them - and I do. My blood pressure initially increased by about 10 points, but now has gone back down. Dry mouth / very thirsty (no matter how much I drink). Muscle twitch (in my eyelid), some nausea (that helps in not eating), constipation (that is a nice change from the IBS symptoms ;-) ), mild headache, funny taste in mouth. Another symptom is problems sleeping - at least I don't have that. And it is not cheap. I reckon better buy really good quality foods than spend that much money on a drug. Currently very depressed about this weight thing which is not good and it is easy to get obsessessed. Like now I feel that if I don't burn enough calories on the treadmill I can't allow myself to eat. That is already becoming dangerous. Also nutrition is very very important and one cannot easily have good nutrition if one eats such low calorie. I am only trying reductil becasue my doctor practically begged me to try (saying it might increase my metabolism a bit) - but I don't think I will continue after this month. The gym doctor suggested adding in xenical. But at 1000 calories a day (which is usually natural foods, lean meats and minimal added fat (except the occassional bit of olive oil) I think any oil I get I need and should not try to block further. Side effects of xenical can be quite yucky AND antisocial - if you eat a high fat meal. Sorry a bit long - overall, I don't think reductil is ideal (from my point of view - anyway). And probably not suited to many pcos women who don't eat so much and still have weight problems. One of benefits of reductil is supposed to be an appetite suppressant. If you don't eat much already - that is not much use. And it certainly doesn't replace attention to diet and exercise. If you have a high fat diet, xenical may be of help. If you do overeat, then give it a try. BTW - you cant use reductil if you have high blood pressure or cardiac problems. You should be screened with a cardiac stress test BEFORE taking it.
