Anyone tried flutamide? Doc and RN opinions wanted, too, please

Hi all,

My PCOS diagnosis was just confirmed about 2 weeks ago, and i've been very down about it but decided hitting the forums might help. My diagnosis came from my LH to FSH ratio of 3 to 1 and elevated testosterone ( .99 ng/ml when the normal range tops out at .75 ng/ml). Hair loss was what led me to look at PCOS, and I realized that in the past 3 years I had had all of the signs of the disorder -- sudden acne, massive weight gain, a slight increase in facial hair, disappearing periods. However, except for the facial hair, all of these symptoms have disappeared in the last year and a half, as I managed through diet and lots of exercise to lose 67 pounds.

Anyways, my periods are now normal, my skin is pretty clear, and I'm losing even more weight, but the hair loss persists and has gotten much worse since I got off the pill in September (to test for PCOS). What is the best way to treat this aspect of PCOS? I have heard from the soulcysters site that flutamide is a good option, but it has strong side effects. Has anyone tried this treatment route? Did it work?

Also, I am meeting with an endocrinologist Dec. 16 to discuss treatment options. What should I know? Is BCP plus aldactone almost certainly going to be the first step? If so, I'd rather start it now with my obgyn, rather than wait yet another month for my endo appointment ( especially if that is what he will likely offer me anyway). Would it be prudent to skip the bcp/aldactone combo and go straight for flutamide? My hair is falling out really heavily now, and the sooner I start treatment for that the better I will feel. Any advice on this front would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your advice and support. I'm so grateful to have this community to help guide me through my new life with PCOS.
