glucophage vs. generic metformin From: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net) Fri, 15 Nov 2002 17:51:51 -0600 (CST) Messages sorted by: [ date ][ thread ][ subject ][ author ] Next message: Lori: "Re: Pergonal" Previous message: ryan: "PCOS and herbs" i am shamelessly cross posting this to the PCOS forum and the medication forum... the crowd seems a little different and i want as much input on this as i can get! my PCOS has been worsening. i was doing very well on the glucophage, no hair loss, able to lose weight with healthy diet and exercise, periods every 5-6 weeks. this all ended at the end of may. until last week, i have been attributing my hair loss, weight gain, increasing facial hair, and lack of periods to the stress of moving cross country... and then to the birth control pills i went back on. but last week, i don't know why... it dawned on my that my symptoms worsened after i went from glucophage (name brand) to generic metformin! i know the drugs are supposed to be the same, and i sure loved having a 7 dollar co-pay instead of a 20 dollar one. it never occured to me that generics might now work so well on me. i have posted this query to the PCOS forum and turns out, others there ahve experienced this. has anyone here had a PCOS flare-up when switching from glucophage to generics?
