Hi Lori!

I never was allowed to give myself injections. My doctor insisted on me either having his office staff or an RN give me mine....so I did a lot of running to his office (in a different town than where I work), a friend who is an RN, and once in a while, to the ER (we had set up a special arrangement so it didn't cost me an ER visit fee). One of the guys I work with was supposed to give his wife the shots, but she ended up doing them herself. I don't know if it's something more recent, because back then....ten to 12 years ago...we had to get them in the hip (very upper butt-cheek).

But....back when I was on it 10 years ago, my doctor scheduled the tests to begin after a few days on Pergonal. I think it was at least 5, maybe 7. I had blood drawn for estrodial readings every other day and the ultrasounds were every other day too. They preferred to use the vaginal ultrasound probe to get a better look at the ovaries and developing follicles. This probe, if you haven't seen one, looks rather like a curling iron. They put a condom over it and lubricate it with a gel. It's not painful or really very uncomfortable at all, unless you get a technician who is in a hurry. If you do....INSIST they slow down or take it easy with you! My mom had one of these type ultrasounds done several years ago for something else.....she told me she mentioned to the technician (who is usually a woman) that they should at LEAST use a vibrating probe so you feel like you're getting something for your money. I couldn't believe it! MY MOM saying that! *BLUSH* hehehehe

I didn't really think the testing was all that bad and I don't have a high pain tollerance. Even the shots weren't too bad, although, like I said, I didn't have to give them to myself.

Best wishes for you!

Hugs

Shelley Well I went to the doctor yesterday to learn how to give myself injections. I will be taking Pergonal as soon as my cycles starts (if all my hormone counts are fine). Has anyone taken this before? If so, how often do you have to go for blood work and/or ultrasound? I know it differs for different people but I really want to get an idea. I am nervous as it is. I know I have to relax but I am afraid that when i inject myself I will brake the needle in my leg or something.... Help
