Re: absence of withdrawal bleedingFrom: sally (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 10 Nov 2002 09:25:36 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I am 32. Diagnosed with PCOS about 18 months ago. Symptoms very obvious for about 4 years. Maybe dr. sam can comment - he is very good with this sort of thing. I also take diane-35 and have very very scant periods. They were light before this, but even lighter now - like 1/2 day and just spotting and seem to be getting even lighter. PCOS can get worse over time. Are you taking any insulin sensitiser. If I take provera for 10 days - from mid cycle - I get slightly heavier period about 7 days after stopping. According to my dr. two possible problems - one is not enough estrogen to prime the uterus to allow the progesterone to workm, or second not enough progesterone to build up the lining. In my case, it is possibly the progesterone. Though even with it is still very light - but heavier than without. Have you tried provera (I think normally about 10 mg/day for 10 days from mid-cycle. Then when you stop you should get period within 2 - 7 days. I had ultrasound, but always showed very thin endometrial stripe. I belive this means I just don't build up anything to have a proper period. I don't know what this means in terms of fertility. But assume it may mean I will have some difficutly - though I am unfortunately not yet in a position to find out.
