Metformin dosage

I am frustrated.... I have been taking Metformin 1000 mg daily, and although I've heard that the typical therapeutic dosage for PCOS is 1500 mg, my doctor will not increase it. I really feel that it is helping some, but could help more at the right dosage. Any advice? My doctor gets frustrated with me because he perceives me as questioning and arguing with him. Is anyone out there on just 1000 mg? Please help!!! -Jennifer
