Hi Mel,
sounds like a very good idea to get a referral to an endocrinologist who
specialises in PCOS. Be aware that not all obgyne are aware /
up-to-date on PCOS (I got brushed off by several before I found a good
endocrinologist.... the classic was - everything is normal dear go and
get yourself married and come back to me if you have trouble getting
pregnant - like DUH! I'm not ovulating......) and if the obgyne is not
helpful, do keep looking. If you post your area some women on this
board may be able to recommend a good doctor (I can't help as I am not
in US).
BCP can distort blood test results - particularly for the sex hormones.
The metformin (once you get to an effective dose) could help with
regularision of periods rather than having to take BCP.
Best wishes
