Dear Mel,

Your poor daughter - having to contend with the PCOS (and unusual weight gain) and insensitive doctors. One thousand calories a day is very low.... along with the exercise. It wouldn't be safe to go lower and you are right to nix a 'starvation' diet. When did your daughter start the BCP? Some women gain weight on BCP. Maybe she could try stopping it (unless she needs it for contraception).

Has your daughter had her thryoid function tested? In fact a full endocrine work-up to rule out any other possible causes - if she hasn't already. Thyroid function can affect weight gain and often goes hand in hand with PCOS. Even subtle abnormalities in thryoid can affect weight gain.

Keep up the efforts - eventually you will find out what works for your daughter. Keep us informed.

Best wishes
