Oral contraceptives *won't* rebalance your hormones. Don't quote me on this (I could well be wrong!) but I seem to remember reading somewhere that some researchers are concerned that oral contraceptives could (possibly) make the insulin resistance that seems to cause PCOS worse. To be honest, I don't know - I'm writing from the UK where standard treatment given by GP's is Dianette as metformin is not licenced (either here or in the US) for treatment of PCOS.

Metformin won't create a period by itself, it might help your own hormones return to a more normal balance which would in itself cause ovulation and therefore a period. It might help to look at an article from the BMJ which has some diagrams I found helpful, it's at http://bmj.com/cgi/content/full/317/7154/329 hope that's of some use, steph
