long 'periods' that aren't real?

I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago after my "periods" started lasting 21 days or more. The doctor ran some blood work, saw my free T was high, my glucose and insulin were fine, an ordered an ultrasound, which showed polycystic ovaries. My ob/gyn told me birth control was the thing to fix the problem. I'm trying to learn more about the syndrome with the hopes that I can use a more natural means to alleviate the symptoms and get back to normal as much as possible. I'm also thin and not IR, so I'm not sure what I should be doing. Can someone give me any help or information please?
