Pcos and Getting Pregnant Help

I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago, but I was never told how to treat it or the affects it could have on me. Now finally after several doctors and two IVF cycles, it was completely explained to me. I was told I have to take Metformin, and have a low carg high protein diet. Does this medicine help with getting pregnant? I know there are side effects, but how bad are they and how long do they last? Thanks Lisa
