What is Yasmin? What is it supposed to do? Thanks. Patty <anonymous@obgyn.net> wrote:Hi, PCOS has been miserable for me. However, I just marked off 14 months in a row for having normal menses from using Yasmin. I am a brunette with a fair complexion, so hair sticks out like a sore thumb. The excess hairs gradually went away, especially along the jawline and chin after about 4-5 months. It is very embarassing. And my hair on my head keeps falling out. I try to manage my hair in a gentler process. I haven't gained anymore weight, but I haven't lost any either, despite doing a 90 minute workout 4-5 days a weeks and eating right (for years!). I did have a great deal of nausea that lasted for 6-7 months. It was every day and I seriously wondered whether it was worth taking. But my health has balanced out enough that I will continue taking Yasmin, in fear of regressing again. Right after my second (and last) child was born, I agreed to try Norplant (two weeks before it's disasterous effects hit the airways). It only lasted 5 months because of the severe side effects. The first two years were hell! I was patted on the shoulder and handed antidepressants which did nothing. No menses for 20 months and debilitating chronic illnesses and a worn out immune system. Then Thyroiditis decided to pop in. Finally, I went to a GYN from my bible study and he verified PCOS with ultrasounds. He is the one of many that finally did something. He gave me Yasmin which worked immediately (I've been through plenty of BCP's over the prior 6 years). That was 10-2001. In 07-2002, he put me on Glucophage to speed up the process. I am tired a lot and have not experienced any of the wonderful effects that I've read about. I do plan to look into Predisone. Unfortunately, my GYN closed his office 09-30-2002 due to the economy. So I will have the dreaded search of finding another GYN that will listen and not patronize me.

Good Luck
