blood pressure / licoriceFrom: k. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 2 Oct 2002 09:38:33 -0500 (CDT)
Under the direction of a doctor, I've been taking an alternative medicine that contains licorice for PCOS and while it helped to restore normal menstrual cycles after just 2 months I fear that it has caused a rise in distolic blood pressure. My bp most recently registered at 120/90. My doc. said it was nothing to worry about, but of course I am. Prior to taking the medicine bp varied between 110/70 and 120/80. Resting heartrate is about 60 or less. I'm 29, not overweight, non IR and I do at least one hour of cardiovascular exercise per day. I was diagnosed as having PCOS due to ultrasound showing cysts and blood tests showing elevated LH and free testosterone levels. Anybody have any advice? I'm I nuts for worrying about this? Doesn't the distolic pressure seem too high?
