>is it safe to breastfeed and take vicodin?< Assuming you are discussing the PRESCRIBED use of vicodin (also marketed as lortab, etc.), yes. If you are addicted, NO. Vicodin and other narcotics do make it in to breastmilk, but if you're taking it as prescribed, then it's a very small amount and will simply make the baby sleepy. It will have no other effects. I took it briefly after my c-section and 6 weeks later when I had my gallbladder out--both times I was nursing and had no adverse effects on my son.
