Hi Chris,

What an insensitive doctor! ARGH! Tell your girlfriend that there are more studies being done all the time. Advances in PCOS treatment are moving faster than ever before in history and you'll have a better chance of having biological children than those of my generation. (I'm 42.) That said....I am one of the fortunate ones. I have two children after experiencing infertility twice. My 17 year old daughter is my clomid baby and my 9 year old son is my pergonal/metrodin baby. So, it IS possible to have biological children with PCOS! Your girlfriend may need fertility drugs, when the time comes....however, I know of several women with PCOS who were treated with insulin sensitizing meds and were able to conceive quite naturally......this after having tried the expensive injectible fertility medicines without luck in the years before!!!

As Dr. Zalanyi says...PLEASE be sure to have your girlfriend consult a specialist in endocrinology! She does not have to submit herself to the careless attitude of some of the less informed doctors!

Best wishes!

Shelley Hi Chris,

Your girlfriend should have a hormonal work-up instead of insensitive information. Besides PCOSers have a good chance at conceiving. On the other hand Metformin is a good choice of drug. For your info
