Metformin tends to make a lot of us more sensitive in the digestive tract. I noticed I have more trouble with irritable bowel symptoms and heartburn too. I take a daily prescription Nexium for the heartburn after having been diagnosed several years ago with acid reflux. There are many antiacid drugs over-the-counter that were prescription only a few years ago. You might try some of these....you may need to try a couple different brands before finding one that works for you. Also, you can try giving your system a bit of a break to see if that helps your heartburn. To do this, give up caffeine, carbonated beverages, chocolate, acidy foods (tomato juice, orange juice, for instance), and eliminate or limit your intake of milk products. If this seems to help, you might try adding these foods back into your diet one at a time. A lot of adults become somewhat lactose intolerant over the years, so it's possible milk products could be part of the problem. You can try supplements to help digest the lactose in these foods.

Hugs,

Shelley

I heard that one of the side effects of taking Metformin is you lose weight. Is this true? I wonder how one lose weight when I am constantly hungry. Although sometimes I don't feel like eating because I feel nausea. Also, I get stomach heartburns. Does anyone else feel the same way with Metformin?
