Heart RythemsFrom: JB (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Sep 2002 13:31:49 -0500 (CDT)
I'm a 47 year old male, up until a year ago I was In great shape. I ran every day, hiked cayons ect. This year I had Gastro problems. Then after a few months in bed, the heart started to skip beats, and kick like a mule at times. Needless to say, it scaired the hell out of me. I had stress tests, halter monitor, and it all seemed to be OK. Three days on a haulter, and my ticker dident act up much at all. (It never seems to act up when I need it to). The Doctors said don't worrie about it. I have been on Atenolo for 5 years for high blood pressure. I was 190 lbs when I started taking the stuff. After I got laied up, I lost alot of weight. So, my BP went down. As I reduced my dose the heart rythems got worse. Then, after a few weeks, it would settle down. I am now down to a quater of a 25 mg. tablet a day. But, I can't seem to get of the 6 mgs. of this Atenolol, every time I stop taking it, my heart will start pumping 100 BPM rested, to 150 BPM, when I get up and move around. The first time I experienced it I went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. It wasen't. I took the Atenolo, and it went back to normal. Why can't I get off this medication, the cardio Doc tells me this small a dose shouldent have any affect on my heart like it seems to be having. What is going on with me and this medication?
