Re: Question about breastfeeding & PCOS

I have PCOS, diagnosed before DD#1 and now continuing as I TTC #2. I'm still breastfeeding my 2yo (hey--when you have such a hard time having him in the first place, you tend to give them the best if not more....ya know?). I didn't really have a hard time at all--if anything for quite a while I OVERproduced. I can see that the opposite might be true for some women however, since one woman with PCOS could have a completely opposite hormonal profile than another woman with PCOS. One of the things that gets most in the way of successful breastfeeding is not putting the baby to the breast often enough. It requires feeding every 2-3 hrs (from start of one feed to start of the next, not end of one to start of the next) and otherwise on demand without supplementing with formula. Unfortunately the medical community (which we've all become cynical enough about in our PCOS days) is all to eager to get in the way. GL to your friend! Deanna
