-- Hi Sophie, I was just told by an ultrasonographer, today, that I do, indeed have PCOS. My GP had suggested it to me after I had reported a number of symptoms to her, the most prominent being my absence of menses for almost a year, after going off of BC pills. Although I this diagnosis has just today been confirmed for me, I have done a ton of research over the past week, on PCOS, convinced that I DID indeed have it after I had read all about it. I was right. I don't yet know all there is to know about this condition, but I am quite sure, after all that I have read on PCOS written by a number of sufferers and doctors, that the PCOS is the reason for a large portion of the weight gain in many PCOS sufferers. The reason for this seems to be the insulin resistance found in many PCOS positive women. The body's resistance to insulin (blood sugar) seems to cause the body to want to turn much of your food into fat, rather than energy. Hence, the common report of obesity in women with PCOS. Yes, PCOS can be managed with a proper low-carb diet, exercise and medication, but PCOS is NOT something that can be cured, it is something that is managed throughout your life. I hope this information helps. Try visiting http://www.soulcysters.com... an american PCOS friendly website which helped me in coping with my new feelings this past week, and I'm sure will be a great source of support for years to come.
