Dear Mary,
I missed the XR in my first reading.
if she is cutting up the tablet to start on a lower dose, it should be
the regular not the XR type of metformin. THe XR type will lose it's XR
effect if it is broken up.
Some women have less problem with the regular metformin, others find the
XR is better. If taking the XR, probably try just one (not two) tablets
before bed....
Your daughter will have to experiment with all of this.
If she really cant' take metformin, there are other drugs that can be
tried (actos, etc.) though they need to be monitored more closely......
