Dear Mary,

when your daughter starts metformin again she should start at a very low dose. 1/2 or even 1/4 tablet only once a day. When the side effects from that dose are ok then, and only then should she building up to a slightly higher dose. Ie. 1/2 or 1/4 tablet twice a day..... it doesn't matter how long it takes to increase the dose.

Also, when she is taking metformin it is really best that she follows a lower ccarb diet. So the meal she takes the met with she should just have protein and some veges (though not potato or corn). Also, some women find that taking the met at different times of the meal ie before, middle, after makes a difference. So she would need to experiment.

Hope this helps

Sally
