College student needs help with Glucophage XR side effects. From: mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 6 Sep 2002 23:45:56 -0500 (CDT)
My 18 year daughter has PCOS. She was first on metformin, but after seeing an endocronoligist, she was then switched to glucophage xr. After 4 weeks, she continued to have the side effects of spending too much time in the restroom. She had both nausea and diarrhea. Food simply could not be cooked in the house anymore because the nausea was just too much for her. We then went back to the endo. and he suggested she take a break from the meds (1000 mgs) per day because she needed to go to college and be able to attend class. Please, we need advice on how to cope with the nausea, etc. because she only gets a 6 week break and then she will need to go back on the medicine. She is going to a nutritionalist who is helping her with a proper eating plan because she also has high cholesterol. She was also going to start to take accutane, but the endo. said no because she needed a break from all meds. We are desperate and need help. Thanks, Mary
